Due out November 15th by way of Drag Metropolis, the album marks Will Oldham’s first correct LP of authentic music as Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy since 2011’s Wolfroy Goes to City. That’s to not say he hasn’t stored busy, nonetheless. Over the previous few years, Oldham has reworked older materials; collaborated with the likes of The Nationwide’s Bryce Dessner, Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), and Thee Conductor; and paid tribute to Merle Haggard, The Grateful Lifeless, Mekons, and extra. It’s like he by no means leaves the studio, but in some way it’s been eight years since he launched a full album of latest songs by himself.
In an announcement, Oldham defined the lengthy wait and the thought course of that went into his new document, noting how music’s digitization weighed closely on his thoughts:
“In recent times, the entire world of recorded music, in the best way that such music is conceived, perceived, recorded, launched and distributed, has been atomized. I attempted holding my breath, ready for the storm to go, however this storm is right here to remain and its devastation is our new panorama. What else is an individual to do besides what he is aware of and feels, which for me is making information constructed out of songs meant for the intimate listening experiences of great strangers who share one thing spiritually and musically? I began engaged on these songs considering that there was no approach I used to be going to complete them and document and launch them. This was a constructive frame-of-mind that protected the songs till this scary second after we let go of them and provides them to you.”
